Live minting at Tjo's art exhibition

Tjo is a visual artist who explores his struggles with mental health, pure OCD, and psychology.

In his latest series, Diaries of Compulsive Obsessions, the artist explores his own journey with OCD and invites the audience to participate and confront their own mental health challenges.

Creating an interactive diary experience

In late August, Tjo put on an exhibition titled Diary of Compulsive Obsessions: Training Data at Le Livart Centre d'art Montréal. The 3 day exhibition featured highlights from his latest works and a unique live minting experience powered by Gifted.

Attendees of the exhibition are asked to reflect and make a diary entry of their own. To support the live art creation, we built an experiential web app experience in the style of a Windows 95 desktop that asked the audience to write and see their words crafted into a unique work of Tjo’s art. Most of the words get hidden in the art, but are fully recorded as onchain metadata.

Screen capture of the interactive diary entry experience

Once a diary entry is submitted, the art and the diary entry is minted to the Base blockchain. It forever becomes a part of the exhibition, and the art work is sent to their email inbox via Gifted.

The interactive exhibit was setup in the final room of the exhibition, where the viewer can sit with the show they’ve just experienced and record their thoughts.

Opening night success

Opening night of the exhibition was well attended, with friends, artists, and the broader community. Over 150 people attended opening night of the exhibition, with over 150 diary entries made as well.

We had poets write stanzas, song writers write verses, along with personal and emotional moments captured. The attendees took up the task of being vulnerable and bared it all out.

Once submitted, we minted their diary entry art and sent them the digital token right to their email inbox. Most attendees to the exhibition had never interacted with NFTs before. With Gifted, their first interaction with the blockchain is forever tied to a meaningful live experience.

And just like that, attendees were onboarded to the onchain world with a beautiful gift, all without ever having to create a wallet, buy crypto, or figure out Metamask.

Attendees loved the experience and sent their thank you notes to the artist via Gifted:

And the artist loved it as well. In his own words:

With this exhibition, we were able to turn affinities into connections, interest into energy, appreciation into love. There is something about the layers in real life that has a different resonance impossible to see through a screen. It really is a blessing to see people find that resonance in person.

Very grateful for the whole team 💙.
